GET THE MOST FROM YOUR VIOLIN LESSONS

Inspiration struck and now you or you children want to learn how to play the violin. Good for them! The violin is one of the most beautiful musical instruments in the world. Over the years we have leaned a few things about learning the violin and getting the most out of your lessons with us.
START VIOLIN LESSONS AT THE RIGHT AGE
Choosing the best age to start violin lessons is very important to your success with the instrument. While adults can start anytime we recommend that children start violin lessons at age 6 and up.
USE A RECOGNIZED VIOLIN METHOD
It's very important to learn proper violin technique from the very beginning. This means starting with the fundamentals and following a proven violin method. Using a recognized violin program will make learning much easier. Two of the most popular methods that Brampton School of Music violin teachers prefer are the Suzuki violin method and the Royal Conservatory of Music. Although these are more popular programs there are many more recognized violin method books available. Our teachers will work you and your family to choose the right program for you and your musical goals.
PLAY YOUR VIOLIN EVERY DAY
Going to your violin lessons every week is great! You will definitely learn if you are consistent in your attendance but there is more you can do. A very important part of your learning comes from practicing the violin daily. This means setting up a practice session every day. It is ok if you can’t make it happen every day but you should try. We develop our music skills over time with consistency. Practicing the violin daily for a few minutes will give you better results than cramming in a few hours of practice the day before your weekly violin lesson.

Here at Brampton School of Music we have a really cool practice challenge program for our violin students. Students work through the levels and earn buttons, achievement medals, and fun grand prizes, just for practicing your violin!
GET THE RIGHT SIZED VIOLIN
Violins come in a wide range of sizes and it’s very important for children to start with the right size for them. Most adults are fine with a 3/4 or full size violin. There are several violin sizes from as small as 9 inches (1/16) to full size which is 14 inches. Learning the violin is enough of a challenge. You don’t want your child to struggle because they have the wrong instrument. With Brampton School of Music your teacher will ensure that you have an appropriate instrument to help make sure you have a positive violin lesson experience.
